November 2007

A pencil doodle of a girl in a sunhat, sitting backward in a chair.  I don’t know why, but I really like the brightness of the yellow.  For some reason I go through color phases….for years it was shades of brown, but now the “pop” of the yellow seems to catch my eye.

No, I’m not drinking absinthe.

Yep, more “re-runs.”  Busy, busy, busy, so here’s another old page from the backpacking journal.  This is a tipsy-ink sketch of some folks sitting at the bar of the Flying Pig.

Another journal page today….tomorrow should be a bunch of new stuff if I have time to scan a few things. It’s pencil with an ink layer over top it.

This is a page from the journal I kept while backpacking in Europe.  At the time I was crashing on the couch of several Chapel Hill girls who were attending art school in Florence for the summer.

I had to photograph the journal below (instead of scanning it)….the weird discoloration in the center is from the flash which I attempted (for about ten seconds) to correct with Photoshop.

I’m cleaning the house today and unfortunately don’t have anything new to put up.  The below is an oil painting I did in my second (third?) year of oil painting underneath Professor Zaborowski at UNC, about a decade ago.  It’s a pencil sketch on canvas paper with a layer of oils carefully applied over top.  It was probably the best one of it’s type I did that year.

I *think* it was based off a sketch done in a coffee shop named Cafe Trios in Chapel Hill, one that has long since turned into an Italian eatery, then a gin bar, and maybe a sports bar now?  I have no idea.
